PHASES OF DRIVER’S EDUCATION:

PHASE ONE - 30 HOURS OF CLASS:

Students under 18 must complete 30 hours of in class instruction before they are able to take the permit test. Once the 30 hours of classroom is complete RAD will issue a “Blue slip”. Students will take the blue slip to the DMV as proof of course completion in order to take the permit test. Once your child passes the permit test at the DMV they can drive with someone over the age of 21.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL CLASS LIKE? WHAT IS NEEDED?:

Monday- Friday. No weekends. 3 hours each day. Our maximum amount of students in a class is 35. Students will need a highlighter, notebook, and writing utensil for class. We provide manuals.  Usually class starts with review. The remainder of class incorporates chapter reading, worksheets, group activity, and chapter testing.

WHAT IF MY CHILD NEEDS TO MISS A DAY?:

Your child can join the same day they missed in the next class session.

PHASE TWO - 6 HOURS OF BEHIND THE WHEEL:

We believe in spacing out the three sessions over the course of holding the permit.

RAD will be able to pick up and drop off at one of our locations for lessons:

Chisago Lakes Golf Course

Our Main Office in Forest Lake on Highway 97

North Branch High School

Princeton High School

PHASE 3 - THE ROAD TEST:

Option 1: Set up the road test with the DMV and take your child to the road test yourself.

Option 2: Have your child combined their 3rd lesson and road test in our car. This is an option for an extra fee that can be scheduled in advance.

BEFORE YOUR CHILD IS ABLE TO TAKE THEIR ROAD TEST THEY MUST:

  •  Complete 6 hours of behind the wheel training

  • Be 16 years of age Have their permit for 6 months

  • Complete a 50 hour driving log with parent/guardian

WHAT IS THE DRIVER'S LOG:

A 50 hour logging of parent- child drive time. 15 of the hours on the log must be night-time driving. The log will be received from us on the first day of classroom. This log must be completed and signed by a parent/guardian by the time of your child's road test. The log must be presented to the examiner. Right Away Driving does not need to see the driver's log on behind the wheels.

CAN MORE THAN ONE BEHIND THE WHEEL BE SET UP AT ONE TIME?: Please know and follow our behind the wheel policy. Only one behind the wheel can be set up at a time and they need to be spaced out one month apart. The only exceptions would be when we are scheduling a lesson and test; due to the DMV examination stations usually scheduling out 60+ days. Please allow extra time for testing scheduling.

CANCELLATION POLICY:

  • We need a 2 business notice from a scheduled appointment. If we do not receive a notification we will charge a $50.00 missed lesson fee.

  • If an instructor shows up at a pick up location and the student is not present after 15 minutes we will charge the $50.00 missed lesson fee.

  • If an instructor shows up at pick up location and the student is not prepared with a driver's instruction permit we will charge a $50 missed lesson fee.

  • If you are sick, we require a 5 hour notice to avoid a fee.
